Mirage (1982)
for flute choir

Mirage was written for the University of Maryland Flute Choir at the request of director William Montgomery. The title refers specifically to the nature of a mirage as an image which is seen only from a distance and therefore without sharply defined detail. The structure of the composition unfolds in dense chords and eight-voice polyphony.

The composer gratefully acknowledges the support of the Creative and Performing Arts Board of the University of Maryland at College Park.
