Three Sketches (1977)
for flute (doubling alto flute) and guitar

The beauty and sense of spontaneity which visual artists sometimes achieve in sketches and studies was a source of inspiration for Three Sketches. My “sketchbook” consists of short pieces which develop quickly from an initial idea. The use of the guitar primarily as a single-line instrument is a logical consequence of my conception of these pieces as “line drawings.”
